Personal Direction Project 1
Proposal Revision
Tension: I am interested in recreating a personalized Beth Cavener sculpture. Materials I will be choosing to complete this work will be polymer clay, aluminum foil, wood, and paint. For my process I will be applying formal elements to my work first then working with concept to complete it. There will be one small sculpture displayed for critique.
Project Intention: I am planning on mimicking her method in hopes of evolving my understanding to creating consistent work. In a way, I am working backwards with my process since I am more well rounded in the formal realm of art. Now I plan to go further in my understanding of making successful work with the addition of conceptual choices and focusing closely to my decision making.
Timeline:
Sep 27 - Armature built
Oct 5 - Animal sculpted and ready for curing
Oct 9 - Animal painted along with stand ready for display
Oct 10 - Critique
Social comparison and evaluation apprehension: I have yet to decide if I want to create 2 human forms or 2 animals; both with characteristics of the other depending on what I chose to do. The intention of creating these forms is so I can demonstrate interaction between two similar beings. I am branching off of the syntax project and defining it into a more personal issue stressing some characteristics that have been part of myself growing up.
Project Intention: Unlike my first project, some tweaks I am making are using 2 'bodies' to stress my concept instead of my original concept of inner competition with oneself. It is easier to use a plural when using competition for my concept. I will complete one work during this 3 week duration, 2 subjects and an object of conflict.
Timeline: 2 weeks my subjects will be completed and the last week will be utilized for organizing them with the possibility of other found objects to complete my hypothesis.
